Emotional Intelligence Assessment and Coaching
Why it’s important
Above and beyond IQ, emotional intelligence predicts the success of individuals and is a learnable skill. Relational challenges throughout our working lives are inevitable and my coaching practice seeks to build clients into more emotionally adept individuals.
Whereas IQ is set in early adulthood and remains fairly constant throughout life, emotional intelligence (or EQ) is not fixed and tends to peak during our 40s. This means that through coaching it can be developed.
Research has shown that whereas IQ can serve to predict between 1 and 20 percent of success in a job (with the average being 6 percent), emotional intelligence has been found to predict anywhere between 27 and 45 percent.
While emotional intelligence isn’t the only predictor of human performance and development potential, it is proven to be a key indicator in these areas, responsible for helping us balance our emotion and reason, as the situation requires.
Becoming more emotionally intelligent allows us to build our tactical relationship skills, which can in turn enhance our effectiveness in the workplace.
